Anne Case and Angus Deaton spent the day at Purdue. The data they presented clearly shows an increase in the mortality rate for those without a college degree. It is driven by suicide, drug overdose, and alcohol abuse. They claim the despair is driven by unfairness in the market.

Tim Moore did a wonderful job facilitating the discussion of a large group of undergrad students with Case and Deaton. The next session for faculty and grad students was even better. Their obvious care for the students was inspiring. I really enjoy my job as an economist.

Just spent two weeks with a group of Purdue undergrads on a study abroad in Buenos Aires. I’m impressed at how hard they worked. We covered a full semester of econometrics in just two weeks and explored the city. I’m exhausted.
