MIT has open makerspaces for any student to use. The nano lab is a clean and sterile space. Boston is across the river from MIT.

Amherst College is a liberal arts college in MA with an open curriculum. This means that there are no core classes required. All classes are open to students from any major. You don't have to declare a major until the end of your sophomore year.

Brown, located in RI, offers an open curriculum, only requiring students to have a concentration (similar to a major) and 2 writing intensive courses. Students can take their classes as pass/fail to encourage learning and exploring interests.

Colby, located in ME, admits students through a holistic review and within the context of their school, family, and community. How students engage with their school is important. Colby meets full demonstrated need without loans.

Columbia University is a 15 minute subway ride from Times Square. Housing is guaranteed all 4 years. Families earning less than $66K pay nothing out of pocket with no loans. Columbia has a core curriculum. Students will apply to Columbia College or Columbia Engineering.

Dartmouth College, located in NH, operates on a quarter system rather than semesters. One summer term , usually after sophomore year, is required. They have a first-year outdoor program that over 90% of students participate in. Dartmouth meets full demonstrated financial need.
