Look guys, it will either snow or not. We probably won't know until after it happens. But if you just need something to read, here's why even 100 mile difference in the track of the incipient nor'easter matters ... enkiops.org/2026/01/28/sim…

It's taken me a year to realize it, but 27/28 January has become quite the dark couple of days for me. I wasn't born for Apollo 1, but my father passed on 27 January 2025 and I distinctly remember watching the Challenger launch and explosion on a classroom TV in middle school.

ZOMG! He used the "Yes" bear??? It does look like there will be snow on the #Georgia/SC #Lowcountry coast this weekend, so prepare for the doom dance on the roads ... enkiops.org/2026/01/29/fro…

Due to weather, we now plan to fuel our Artemis II Moon rocket on Monday, Feb. 2, at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. With this adjustment, the earliest possible launch date is Sunday, Feb. 8. A launch date will be set after teams have reviewed the results of the wet dress

We look back with sadness on this photo of the crew of STS-107. #OTD in 2003 these seven astronauts tragically lost their lives as Columbia broke apart minutes before it was to land. We pledge to keep their memory alive. #NASARemembers

I got my exercise today by taking a walk in Jekyll Island's historic district. While on the island, I caught NAVY HR 516 (MH-60R, 168145, HSM-48) doing some approaches at Jekyll Island Airport (09J). I also heard them on Unicom frequency 123.050.

Disappointed to see that the North Charleston Fire Museum is closing. It had a wonderful collection of historic apparatus and equipment, a great collection of FD memorabilia, and taught fire safety. northcharleston.org/news_detail_T1…

This morning, I visited Wormsloe State Historic Site for their Colonial Faire & Muster. They had reenactors portraying British & Colonial troops, colonists & Native Americans demonstrating everything from candle making to cannon firing (It continues through tomorrow)

Radio Observation: I haven't heard a phone patch on amateur radio in ages, but it seems that AirEvac has begun using phone patches through their towers in place of going direct on 155.3400, VMED28 for patient reports to Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

It's been an afternoon with a lot of Brush Fire calls for the area Fire Departments. Palmetto 800 (SC statewide radio system) talkgroup 6544 has been active, and while it's not listed on RadioReference, it sounds like it's Jasper County Fire Tac 3.

Getting hammered by a bad cold and can't sleep, so I watched Spaceflight Now's coverage of the USSF-87 launch. Good views of the launch from their crew and informative analysis of what appeared to be an issue with one of the solid rocket boosters on Vulcan.

Watched this coverage before going into work last night. They did an outstanding job of simultaneously covering the Artemis II wet dress rehearsal and the SpaceX Starlink launch.
