LA jails just posted their 21st in-custody death for this year. Like the one 2 days earlier, it was at Men's Central Jail.

I’m here at the California Court of Appeal where the fate of the injunction blocking LA’s Inspector General’s investigation into deputy gangs will be decided. ACLU SoCal has filed an amicus brief opposing the lawsuit filed by the deputy’s union to stop OIG’s investigation.

Prison is a dangerous place and its horrific conditions can be triggering for anyone. Even so, more than 40% of people behind bars in severe psychological distress have not had mental health treatment. The carceral system is no place for people who need health care.
