I never really imagined being the 3rd Rhythm Devil but when Mickey Hart needed help raising that huge gong I must have been standing nearby. Guessing this is 1979 or so. They were filming something with Dad Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey out at his ranch in Novato.

The one and only William “Big Bill” Kreutzmann, my Grandfather. He always got great reactions when he wore this shirt to Grateful Dead shows. Since the 1940’s Big Bill was really into making these great home movies. That’s why my Dad Bill Kreutzmann got me a Super-8 camera.

A couple years back I was doing some promo stuff
Crosby Stills & Nash. The coolest part was I got to call Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and David Crosby to talk to them about their early days. While talking with Crosby he went into some great Jerry Garcia stories.

Every now and again it would dawn on me that the audience could see everybody standing behind the band during those great outdoor Grateful Dead shows. Case in point: I was sent this photo of me and the great Owsley 'Bear' Stanley watching the band at the Greek (I think).

A band is only as good as its drummer. There, I said it.

Let There be Drums! is an unexpectedly warm film by Justin Kreutzmann that I truly enjoyed watching.

It was such an honor to have Jim AND Eric Keltner in the movie. Jim, legend. Talk about a guy with great stories!

Jim Keltner holds it down on drums… and the list of albums he’s appeared on is mind blowing. Sure, he’s recorded with John, George, Ringo, Dylan, Petty. That’s just the start. Check this list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Keltn… + meet him in Justin Kreutzmann’s terrific “Let there Be Drums.”
