Yesterday, I made public my Quantitative Social Science Methods class lectures. Instead of watching these on YouTube, Harvard students will use our free platform Perusall.com to watch, annotate videos, & interact. To do this in your course: Use code 6AFEYRZH4P

I taught a grad class on scientific computation for social scientists this semester, you can ✅ out materials here: github.com/colaresi/Scien… No background required. We cover bash/zsh 🛠, vim, git, tmux, make, python, linting, type-hinting to instill best practices for replication

{peacesciencer} now has a user guide. Ideally I would love to publish this but I also don't know who would be interested (i.e. it's basically an #rstats tutorial that I'd love to feature in an IR journal). Feedback welcome. github.com/svmiller/peace…

I can’t recommend this The Dickey Center at Dartmouth post doc strongly enough: dickey.dartmouth.edu/programs/secur…. A great research community, on-campus ice skating, and an abundance of apple cider donuts. #PoliSciJobs

If you are looking for a good book to learn linear algebra, Mike X Cohen’s “Linear Algebra: Theory, Intuition, Code” is my new go 2 recommendation;great coverage, fun descriptions, Python code, and a structure that builds incrementally from fundamentals to practical understanding

When paired with the Grant Sanderson videos 3blue1brown.com/topics/linear-…, students (and faculty that want a refresher) can really efficiently understand much of bedrock DS/ML. Definitely beats the pure math, no viz or code (anti-)pedagogy of the past

What are standard practices of paper-based PhDs in polsci & IR? Here is a report based on the practices in 61 leading departments. I also provide some recommended regulations in case no rules are in place yet. #poliscitwitter #polisciphd #phdlife dropbox.com/s/podegpfhf6h6…

My new R package for survey data visualization using ggplot2 is now in beta test mode. The goal was to create functions to make plots I was making over and over again with less code. More documentation to come. There will be an #AAPOR short course on it. github.com/balexanderstat…
