"Conceptions of dyslexia as a clinical condition that applies to a subgroup of struggling readers, & which requires extensive psychometric testing by expert clinicians to identify, are outdated & fail to reflect developing understandings about the true nature of rdg disability"🎯

I'm reading this (below) whilst reflecting on how hard I find it to read these days! It's so hard to turn off 'the noise' and focus on the text in front of me. It feels heightened since the doctorate - perhaps a shift in purpose? Can anyone else relate?! 📚 #TwitterEPs

Marilyn Muller Robert Pondiscio Any number of factors, often in combination, and often unknown. It's also possible to have an underlying disorder AND receive poor instruction. I am on board with Julian Elliott & Elena Grigorenko's revised (2024) position:

Julian Elliott Marilyn Muller Pamela Snow Robert Pondiscio "Dyslexia denialist".. my attention was caught by that silly term. If Dyslexia is defined in the way you say, there's nothing specific to 'deny'.. yes, people have language and reading problems and should get support. No parallel with attempts to deny climate change or vaccines.

Whilst the Government’s SEND plan is in the news, I thought it would be useful to highlight this paper: 'Special Educational Needs and Disability tribunals: Dyslexia, scientific validity and equity' by Julian Elliott, Stanbridge & Branigan 2024. bera-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.10…
