Our annual family pilgrimage to the derelict and hurricane-destroyed amusement part of my childhood, Trinity Loop, did not disappoint. This year we followed the old train loop around the lake; and found more artwork and opinions sprayed on crumbling walls.

When you've caught some fresh cod, and there are chanterelles on the trail on the way to the swimming spot, and then the waterfall throws up an old frying pan for you to cook it in.

I'm so excited to give this talk at the legendary Rocky's Place in Trinity, in the Trinity Historical Society's 60th year! If you know folks in the area, spread the word!

The talk went so well and the audience was great. And then to add the excitement, my friend and I came within inches of hitting a huge moose on the dark highway on the way home!

Adventures on Fox Island, used as a kind of natural castle keep in 18th century Newfoundland. The ruins of a fort are still here: a winter sanctuary for local people when the British navy had left for the year & French raids threatened. Now home to berries & gull-dropped urchins.

A wonderful ride doing the baby version of the BonRexton Granfundo, including getting to cycle down the old main street in Canada's only union-built town!

The scrapping of one-word Ofsted judgements is welcome news. You wouldn't sum up a child in a single word, so how can you sum up hundreds of children and their teachers in that way? But reform will not be complete until Ofsted is held as publicly accountable as schools are.

Very happy to see Ofsted end one-word ratings but as much as I want to celebrate I think England has a damn long way to go before it has a school system that respects the expertise and labour of teachers and the well-being and diversity of kids.

What Katie said. Also, as a chronic hater of all things school spirit-esque when I was a teen, 'attendance breakfast' and 'attendance stars celebration assembly' would have made me go to school less, not more.

YES YES YES! I did my UG degree over five years in Canada. I worked about 20 hours a week throughout, and took semesters off to work and travel and live and think about what I really wanted to do. Not to mention that UG Uni life was so fun! I wouldn't have wanted any less time.

Having recently been to hospitals on both sides of the pond I have a question. Why do nurses wear constricting polyester-blend uniforms in the UK? In Canada they wear scrubs.
