Completely agree .. there isn't a day goes by without me spending hours checking clients passports .. "Travel is tough enough already without invented passport rules" When will GOV.UK actually HELP the #travelindustry instead of confusing everyone?

As a #travelagent also forced to cut staff & fight alone, I find it unbelievable that the same Govt who destroyed our #travelindustry with their onerous restrictions blame the industry for the disruption .. lack of Govt support (& enough notice to re-open in time!) is the cause

Utter tosh for govt minister here to claim it provided post-vaccine certainty for the travel industry to plan recovery. Shambolic air corridors & traffic light changes made on a whim. Furlough extensions announced too late. This is a *direct* consequence! theguardian.com/business/2022/…

How dare u Rt Hon Sir Grant Shapps! U never once provided sector specific support for the travel industry! U shut us down, forced viable businesses 2 close and drove talent away from the sector. Now you want to blame us for the airport chaos which you could have helped to avoid. Shame on U!

Let’s list what actually happened: ✅ Aviation/Travel asked for sector specific support, given length and uncertainly of recovery. ✅ Furlough ended in September, still with heavy restrictions around the world on travel. ✅ Omicron wave brought uncertainty during the winter.

Spot on Chris Wright #travelindustry asked Govt for sector specific support for 2 years & until a couple of months ago was pretty much still shut down ... now they blame us when we need to go from mothballed to vertical take off in a few weeks! yet again, what shambles :(

Rt Hon Sir Grant Shapps please don’t dare to blame the industry for the travel chaos! If you had helped out the industry in our hour of need, helped us retain staff to manage existing bookings when earning nothing, maybe we wouldn’t be where it is now!!!

A year ago today I was on the telly calling for sector specific support for the travel industry, which never came. This govt must take the lion’s share of the blame for the current issues facing travellers. They ignored our warnings and now they’re trying to pin the blame on us!

Thanks to Govt's shambolic waste of £500m on travel restrictions (which did not work according to this report), companies like mine still face closure, destroyed over 2 years of chaos, lack of income & now fighting to keep my house. Shame on you Rt Hon Sir Grant Shapps & co #travelagent

The Government traffic light system was brought in by public/media pressure, so as to be seen as they were doing something (on the back of Australia & New Zealand’s sealed borders - which were easier to control). £500m could have been better spent on supporting the industry…

Agreed! and by excluding us small business owners, he destroyed our livelihoods & continues to ignore us ... #excluded "supported people through toughest of times ..." he doesn't care that for some of us times continue to get tougher and there is STILL zero support!

If nothing / not enough is done about the cost of living crisis I dread to think of the consequences for those unable to pay their rent or mortgage. We can’t sit and wait for mass homelessness.
