Retired federal judge: I was a federal judge for 17 years. I ruled against the government, or I ruled in favor of government. I felt free to do that. That’s the system. Donald Trump and House Republicans are proposing this bill because of the stage the cases against Trump are at.

Sen. WHITEHOUSE: This provision in the reconciliation bill has to be understood in the context of an orchestrated, coordinated campaign of threats and intimidation against the federal judiciary.

ACLU: For over 100 years, we’ve stood against Presidents of both parties to protect Constitutional rights. Now, the majority in the House snuck a provision into their bill that’s a get-out-of-jail-free card for the government to ignore court orders.

Sen. HIRONO: What's the point of holding this Administration accountable if you can’t enforce court orders? Republicans’ continued desire to get patted on the head by this President brought them to insert this provision that has nothing to do with the budget.
