After five long years, Lowell baseball’s heartbeat returns. In 2026, the Spinners take the field at LeLacheur Park as a premier Futures League team stacked with elite college stars and homegrown talent. Mill City, we’re bringing back a true Lowell legend. Let’s play ball!

Every year, Nova Scotia sends Boston a Tree for Boston, the official Christmas Tree of the City. It’s a token of appreciation for the assistance Boston sent to Halifax following a massive explosion in 1917. Today, it serves as a symbol of an enduring friendship. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

I'm sorry but the Massachusetts ballot initiative to cap most rent increases at the lower of either annual CPI change or 5% takes policy illiteracy to new heights. Prononents are pushing a policy that will actively hurt our most vulnerable residents. commonwealthbeacon.org/politics/theyr…

Washington is full of Biden Admin post-mortems about why things were so hard to accomplish. Folks like Roosevelt Institute get the diagnosis right: its too hard to hire, fire, buy, spend, etc. But, in a new piece, I argue almost everyone has the wrong ideas about how to fix things.🧵

This is why building state capacity is so important. Folks are increasingly recognizing the problem with states outsourcing what should be in-house work to the for-profit sector but very few are willing to publicly address the rot in the non-profit sector. city-journal.org/article/minnes…

Social policies are set up to fail when policymakers value splashy headlines and credit claiming over the mundane task of getting the complex but crucial details right. New Mexico's childcare scheme is a prime example. wsj.com/us-news/in-a-u…

Labor shortages and population decline are hitting communities across the U.S. At the same time, migrants are struggling to find opportunity. Cassandra Zimmer-Wong's Migration Match Index identifies a way to solve both problems.

New piece up @Niskanen on the Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA) and some number-crunching courtesy of The Budget Lab! As I argue, raising the FUTA wage base - even just to offset inflation from the last 3 yrs - can pay for key reforms to how we finance unemployment agency work.🧵

Congress can fund and stabilize the UI administration for the next decade with one reform: Raise and index the Federal Unemployment Tax wage base. More from Will Raderman : niskanencenter.org/broaden-the-ba…

After decades of underinvestment, updating and indexing the FUTA wage base is a practical step to cover the cost of administrative upgrades designed to improve program performance. Learn why Will Raderman is all about that base: niskanencenter.org/broaden-the-ba…
