Now that I no longer have the option of logging in thru a university's library, I feel non-academics' pain more fully and am *begging you all* to please post non-paywalled versions of your academic papers on your websites.

every day there’s new data or studies proving that the YIMBYs are right and building more housing is the best way to lower rents

Newly-passed free community college in MA has produced a surge in enrollment. Challenge now is to make 4 yr colleges cheaper, fairer, & all colleges better. “Cheaper, Fairer, & Better” should be our goals for higher ed. We should push all 3 at once #mapoli masslive.com/education/2024…

Teaching undergrad econometrics this semester? Here's all my slides from a course co-developed with Jonathan Roth at Brown sites.google.com/site/aboutpete… Just shoot me an email if you'd like the underlying source files to adopt for your own course!

Alec Stapp the crazy thing about this is that winter heating typically uses a lot more energy than summer A/C, but doesn’t have the same stigma

Shouldn’t a policy that moves all science out from behind a paywall be a priority for progress studies? It’s not like journals create knowledge. They create and ration prestige.

Labor Day's a great day to look at a key indicator of how welcoming the job market is to prime-age (25-54) workers. By this measure, the current expansion stands out. Starting with this medium-term view, we see strong bounce-back out of the trough of the pandemic recession...

An actually legitimate question - an arXiv type system that was contractually obligated to be open forever (avoiding SSRN issue) and foundation/govt funded, with agreements that grant recipients place all current *and* older final preprints there, would be a game changer.

Very excited to be hosting this conference University of Notre Dame, co-organized w/Katherine Michelmore (@Umich). Also, grateful for additional support from ND's Institute for Educational Initiatives (IEIatND), Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts (Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts), & the legendary Stata.

I could be mistaken, but I think I just encountered my first economics working paper with at least some references generated by an LLM. The bibliography contained a very recent top 5 publication which I was certain did not exist. This won't be the last time this happens.

We're looking for someone in the Porter Square, Cambridge area to provide ~10 hrs/wk of after school childcare. It's the perfect job for an undergrad or grad student with afternoons free. Let me know if you're interested or feel free to forward to someone who might be.

Just realized that technically I've published in the QJE, AER (: Insights), and JPE. The last one wasn't exactly peer-reviewed... jstor.org/stable/26549896

They are not a fact of life. They do not happen in any other country but the United States. If they are a “fact of life” for J.D. Vance that tells you everything you need to know about what he really thinks about supporting kids and families.
