First days of school. Kindergarten, UCC and now McGill. The passage of time does not slow no matter how much you wish it could.

"If 1.4 billion people were suddenly left with an economy in tatters and a regime completely unstable, we would feel it in... our consumer prices." University of Toronto's Joseph Wong on why the West should hope for China's reform rather than its collapse. shorturl.at/5aAeD

"You're cute, for an Asian," both a slight and a compliment in a scene in Didi by Sean S. Wang, a resonant coming-of-age film, universal in its themes yet captures the complex nuances of growing up Asian in America. Meritocratic inequality, where the 'elites' devour themselves through cutthroat competition and the rest are left behind, leaving everyone soulless. Fascinating book by Daniel Markovits, which I've assigned to my honors undergrad seminar. Munk One

So, Bill Clinton made a claim tonight that America has added about 50 million jobs since 1989 and that almost all of them were added during Democratic Presidencies. You guys just know I had to fact check it. And, yeah, it's basically true. Amazingly.

Canada and the world cannot afford to ignore the African continent. The as-yet unrealized demographic dividend will benefit the world; meanwhile, turmoil and instability hurt us all. Either way, the fate of Africa will be ours as well. #Sudan #Africa theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

I agree with Phil Triadafilopoulos. An economist needs to explain to me how foreign low-wage earners, doing jobs others won't do, are the reason average house prices are $1m+ in Canada. cbc.ca/news/politics/…
