Forest fires are a political issue just as much as they are an ecological issue. Today is a great day to read David Camfield’s FUTURE ON FIRE: Capitalism and the Politics of Climate Change fernwoodpublishing.ca/book/future-on…

Park and ride, built into our mass transit plans is expensive and antithetical to the success of our transit system. Free parking presumes low land value around stations, negating the multiplier effect of (artificially) scare transit funding. edmontonjournal.com/news/local-new…

"[Gutierrez] In short, our world needs climate action on all fronts — everything, everywhere, all at once." Note: cities are included when scientists say "everything and everywhere". As city-building professionals, we need to start acting like it. ourworldindata.org/grapher/co2-mi…

I have been surprised at my own sense of dread as the ⁦Alberta NDP⁩ fail to present a compelling alternative to climate denialism, and austerity politics. ⁦Emma Jackson⁩ gets it right. breachmedia.ca/2023-alberta-w…

Cities are dynamic and experimental. Cargo bikes offer a glimmer of hope that we can move beyond the private automobile. Here’s Maddie on a human scale roadway with a full load.

City Council is debating a Tree preservation tomorrow. Most of the debate thus far has been about redeveloping neighbourhoods (infill) but we need to broaden the conversation to examine the clear cutting as a result of urban sprawl. Sprawl eats farms, wetlands, and trees.

In a discipline as impactful as city planning, our failure to adopt best practice is confounding. If a cure for a deadly disease was produced in Amsterdam, would Albertan physicians not bring the treatment here? Why does this logic not extend to cities? bit.ly/45adUVZ

Is it really a radical position to see this infrastructure as insane? Accommodating personal automobiles is so obviously ridiculous.

For June bike month I’d love city hall to fix their parkade entrance. If you want to bike to city hall, you can’t enter to lock up safely off 99st bike lanes. Call security and you’ll be told to enter through a small elevator and pedestrian doors. Thanks #yegcc
