My great uncle, who built the Astro Romana refinery in Ploesti before the war, then helped the Americans build a full-scale mock-up in the Libyan desert so he could teach them which parts to bomb. This also minimised civilian casualties, one of whom would become my great aunt.

Handley Page Halifax B Mark II, JP321 'V', of 614 Squadron RAF with splinter holes from anti-aircraft rockets which hit the aircraft during a pathfinding operation over Europe. Successfully flown back to its base at Celone, Italy, it was struck off charge.
