Made it to Heraklion for FIBA U16 EuroBasket. Slovenia beats Poland 81-66 to kick things off. Stefan Joksimović (🎥) and Lukas Bojović form one of event’s most dynamic backcourts. 20 PTS, 8 REB, 5 AST, 1 BLK for Joksimović — exceptional showing for the 6’4” 15-year-old lefty.

Awesome battle between Serbia and Germany here at the FIBA U16’s in Heraklion. Real Madrid teammates-to-be, Andrej Bjelić and Fabian Kayser, duking it out. Bjelić knocked down six threes, many coming via deep off-the-dribble pull-ups, leading Serbia to a narrow win.

Spain’s ball pressure and balanced attack outclassed Finland here at the U16’s. Lucas Sanchez was the best player on the floor, finishing w/ 16 PTS, 8 AST, 5 REB, 2 STL in poised fashion. Saba Merebashvili was physical/disruptive defensively and finished w/ a game-high 20 PTS.

Karim Lopez — the top-ranked international prospect in the 2026 NBA draft class — has signed with the New Zealand Breakers as part of the NBL’s Next Stars program, he tells ESPN. At 6-foot-8, Lopez is considered the future face of Mexican basketball and a potential lottery pick.

Nice win for Latvia over Turkey in tonight’s U16’s night cap. Ričards Aizpurs lived up to his reputation w/ 24 PTS, 6 REB, 3 AST, 2 BLK, 1 STL — a physical force who lived at the stripe. Ömer Ege Ziyaettin went nuclear for Turkey, draining 8 threes en route to 35 points.

Slovenia having some fun after beating Georgia, advancing to 2-0 in the FIBA U16’s group stage. Stefan Joksimović continued his breakout to stardom w/ 19 points and 8 rebounds. Mate Khatiashvili had an outstanding 2nd half, nearly spearheading a big comeback before fouling out.

Deserving game MVP attribution to Kenny Courset in France’s win over Poland here at the U16’s in Heraklion. Starred in his role, particularly on the defensive end where he was both a lockdown on-ball defender and disruptive off the ball.

Israel takes down Italy by a score of 73-65 here at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket in Heraklion. The Israeli backcourt duo of Aviv Aronov and Amitay Azriel was spectacular. Combined for 49 points while committing only 2 turnovers. Both fearless scorers and tough as nails.

Emilis Zibuda provided a big spark off the bench in Lithuania’s win over Germany last night here at the U16’s in Heraklion. 20 points and 8 rebounds on just 11 shots. 6’6” c/o 2027 guard making the move to EYBL Scholastic w/ Veritas Academy next season.

Breakout performance for Israel’s Ari Amiel here at the U16’s in Heraklion. 16 PTS, 5 REB, 5 AST, 1 STL in a win over Croatia. Some highlight moments w/ ankle-breaking shifty ball handling and slick no-look passes after manipulating backline defenders.

Spain’s Marcos Zurita knocks down a clutch free throw to seal a hard fought win over Turkey here at the FIBA U16’s. Finished w/ 28 points, absolutely carrying his team as the only double-digit scoring Spaniard. Omer Kutluay and Anıl Alyanak shined for Turkey in a tough loss.

2009-born Australian guard, Jayden Cecil, has enrolled at Utah Prep in the class of 2028. Was long-assumed to be destined for the NBA Global Academy, but will instead make an early stateside jump. Recently debuted w/ a championship at the Shanghai Future Star Games.

Serbian big man, Andrija Vuković, has signed w/ Oklahoma State in the c/o 2024, I’m told. Brings great size to the Cowboys’ frontcourt at 6’11”, 265 lbs w/ a nice combo of mobility, interior finishing, screen-setting, soft hands, defensive positioning, and fight on the glass.

2005-born Lithuanian prospect, Vytautas Žygas, has signed w/ Old Dominion in the class of 2024, I’m told. The tough, bouncy 6’6” lefty developed in Žalgiris Kaunas’ youth system and started for Lithuania’s FIBA U16, U17, U18, and U20 teams the past four summers.
