Last night, IACDL hosted an event kicking off the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Gideon v. Wainwright. The evening celebrated and thanked the lawyers who serve our communities and the criminal legal system through #publicdefense work. (1/2)

We were proud to show our appreciation for current and former public defenders in Illinois and to share camaraderie with private attorneys, law professors, and judges!

Today we salute public defense staff on the 60th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Gideon vs Wainwright, guaranteeing counsel as a fundamental right. Support staff, investigators, attorneys and specialists make this a reality!

On Thursday, staff from our office celebrated Gideon Day with public defenders from around the state at a party hosted by Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and joined by NACDL!

Congratulations to Lakshmi E. Jha, IACDL past president and current Assistant Public Defender in the Cook County Public Defender’s Office's office, for being selected as an Associate Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County!
