My feminism was evident before I founded Good Law Project.
My work was highlighted by then gender equality watchdog, the EOC; I wrote furiously about how the criminal justice system fails women (eg newstatesman.com/politics/2018/…); and I was invited to join the Board of Fawcett Society.
I chaired the single parents' organisation, Gingerbread. Something like 90% of single parents are women and around 50% live in poverty. And I chaired fatherhoodinst whose central ask was shared parental leave, which is perhaps the key policy to tackling the motherhood penalty.
The organisation I founded, Good Law Project, has a senior leadership team of five, of whom four are women. It has never had a man on its SLT (me aside). The law firm it owns employs a solicitor with a particular brief of tackling violence against women and girls.
And Good Law Project was instrumental in the setting up of Dr Charlotte Proudman's organisation Right to Equality. Charlotte wins award after award for her incredibly brave work tackling the problems faced by women that our patriarchal press does not much talk about. independent.co.uk/voices/women-g…
Much of the work Good Law Project does to tackle violence against women and girls much remain invisible because it is sensitive. But we have advised women how they can bust NDAs, protect themselves from the men who rape them and face down defamation threats.
We are also very proud of what is in the public domain.
When Nina Cresswell was sued for defamation by the man who sexually assaulted her, we supported her and helped her establish a new defence which will protect all women. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
