On January 2, ultra low sulfur #diesel on the CME commodity exchange settled at $2.5258/gallon. Today's settlement of $2.5747 is the second-lowest behind that this year.

Battered and bruised in #trucking this a.m. due to numbers from $JBHT and $KNX. At approximately 10:50, here were some of the % drops: $XPO, -4.6%; $WERN, -2.5%; $TFII, -7%; $SNDR, -4.3%; $SAIA, -3.4%; $ODFL, -5.5%; Hunt, -9.2%; Knight Swift, -4%; $FWRD, -9.08%; $ARCB, -8%.

Between the start of '21 and end of '23, stock price of $ODFL almost doubled. It's been good for the compensation of CEO Kevin Freeman. He earned $9.5 million last year, up from $7.8 million in '22. A year earlier, it was $6.2 million. Before today it was up another 10% in '24.

Stock market view on truckload is going to start to get tested this week with earnings. For now, it's decidedly bearish. Both $MRTN and $PTSI hit 52-week lows Monday (Marten reports Wednesday), $SNDR and $HTLD almost got there. $CHRW also hit a 52-week low Monday. #trucking

And it should be noted that ultra low sulfur #diesel on the CME fell today and is now about 7 cts/g less than where it was a week ago.

Maybe the $$ is not in the trucks but in the supply chain: Eddie Capel, CEO of software provider $MANH, had total compensation in '23 of $10.36 mil. It was down slightly from '22 when it was $10.43 mil. He made $7 mil in '21. Stock up about 68% last year, up about 15% in '24.

David Parker's compensation as $CVLG CEO has dropped significantly over last 2 years. Total in '23 was $1.38 mil. A year earlier it was $2.11 mil and a year before that it was $5.83 mil. The stock was up 29.72% last year and since the start of '22 it's pretty much doubled.

Seems to happen all the time: just when everybody starts talking about higher #oil and #diesel prices, the futures market decides that for now at least, it has different plans.

Tough day at $MRTN: the truckload carrier hit a 52-week low today at $17.05, down 9% in a month and 17.1% in 52 weeks. Also, it was just about a year ago $ARKO was trying to take over Travel Centers of America. Today, it hit a 52 week low as well, down about 44.5% in a year.

Not much to say here about the truck transportation Producer Price Index for March released this morning. We've obviously hit a market balance where it's not really rising much and it isn't really falling much. So nobody's happy. #trucking #PPI

Drew Wilkerson, CEO of $RXO, got big stock award in '22 which took his comp to more than $11 mil; RXO was spun off from $XPO in Nov '22. Grant in '23 was a lot smaller, took his comp down to $5.66 million. Stock last year was up 31.85% but it's down about 7.2% this year so far.

Needs to be noted: the battered stock price of $FWRD, since a March 18 low of $26.35, is up about 13.8%. It closed at just over $30 on Tuesday. Down about 70.9% in 52 weeks. #trucking

Big compensation year for W.M. 'Rusty' Rush at $RUSH. It was a big year in '22 also for the CEO of the commercial #truck retailer company. His '23 comp totaled $10.69 million. It was $10.3 million a year earlier. Stock was up about 30.3% in 2023, but now up 51.9% in 52 weeks.

Gartner isn't a supply chain company per se but $IT convenes thousands of #logistics executives worldwide every year, and their 'quadrants' are closely watched. Good news for them: Moody's increased the Gartner rating to Baa3 from Ba1. It's now an investment-grade credit.

Retail #diesel prices couldn't not react to crude ad infinitum and this week they finally did. But they're still below where they were at the start of February.
