Area of 1.9 million+ km2 plays a crucial role in global climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development efforts.

Collaboration not competition across the Miombo Woodlands region is key to its conservation, emphasized WCS’s Luthando Dziba during a panel on biodiversity and peace today. Our team is in DC to support the African-led Miombo Initiative.

Further financial resources are needed to manage and conserve Miombo Woodlands. WCS can mediate between public and private sector to help governments assess the quality, pros, and cons of potential opportunities for these, said WCS’s Todd Stevens at Miombo Initiative event today.

We must conserve Miombo Woodlands for combined benefits of biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and sustainable development says WCS’s Emma Stokes. WCS is in DC to reiterate support for African-led Miombo Initiative to protect these forests across Southern Africa.
