Effective classroom management practices schoolnews.co.nz/?p=30061 via SchoolNews NZ While much of the advice is sound, there is not one mention yet about needing to know about the neuroscience of brains and behaviour, or any challenge to behaviourism theory. Sigh.
My new book, co-authored w/Margaret Thorsborne, OAM, really digs into this. Chapter 3 is titled 'The Neuroscience of Behavior' and we used Bruce D. Perry, M.D.,Ph.D.'s Neurosequential model to help show why traditional discipline isn't effective for most kids. It barks up the wrong tree! We can do better.
“As pediatricians, we don't recommend corporal punishment. We know it's not an effective form of discipline. Spanking and hitting a child might help a behavior in the short term. They might be fearful and obedient,”gse.harvard.edu/ideas/edcast/2… #endseclusion
Connection, curiosity, consistency and structure are brain based ways to approach discipline. ❤️ Joe Brummer
