Favourite chart of this week - from @PHE_uk's flu and COVID-19 surveillance report. Red line = post-infection antibodies. Black line = post-infection + vaccine-induced antibodies. Look at that black line go! assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…

Here’s something to get your weekend off to a good start - Courteeners on my new campaign video! Let’s keep building the new Greater Manchester.

I point the camera & record, always in the dark (excuse the pun) about what’s really happening in front of me but sometimes I get lucky. When my wife or my kids describe the videos of Kika to me, they paint a beautiful picture & in that moment I forget that I can’t see 💙

🧵We are about to start todays #GMPolicyHub seminar on economic inactivity & inequalities. Chaired by Prof Maria Sharmina with presentations by Dr Elaine Dewhurst & Victoria Cronquist from Smart Works GM. Follow this thread for live tweets!

Our first speaker is Dr Elaine Dewhurst. Elaine will outline the Uncertain Futures project work. What is causing economic inactivity for women over 50? What are the solutions?

Policy@Manchester (@uompolicy) 's Twitter Profile Photo

What were the results from the Uncertain Futures project? Dr Dewhurst tells us that "economically inactive women" are actually providing lots of services. Volunteers, caring for grandchildren or family members, roles as neighbourhood keepers.

The Uncertain Futures project found significant levels of discrimination with participants recounting that they felt pushed into volunteer roles.

The Uncertain Futures work shows that "people need specific, tailored support". Women are contributing a lot to society but much of this is under valued and unpaid work.

100 women were asked what they aspire to in retirement. The responses were that women had modest aspirations. But they feared financial insecurity.

The Uncertain Futures manifesto states that women have a right to equality, good work, recognition of unpaid labour and involvement in decision making.
