I've known Jon Gordon for almost 20 years. We both agree that we are NOT 'motivational speakers'. We are teachers, story-tellers, facilitators, and so much more. Motivation is fleeting but being the example & helping others to establish a proven process is what works.

Just had an amazing call with one of our Certified Energy Bus Schools. Here is what stood out: 1) Tons of imagery around their school with the bus theme and student work 2) Students stepping up into leadership roles 3) A school community who believes and wants a positive culture!

If we do not help our students create a positive vision, set goals, and think for themselves...someone else will do it for them. Give them tools, confidence, opportunities for discussion and let them think through it! Our students are capable of creating a great future.

Hallways speak. Walls teach. Images inspire. A school’s visuals should reflect its vision. When students walk past murals, quotes, and symbols that remind them who they are becoming, culture gets reinforced without a single word being said. EnergyBusSchools Jon Gordon

Student leadership isn’t a title. It’s a responsibility. Are you giving students real influence or just a name tag? At Coshocton MS/HS, their students are actively involved in making Energy Bus come alive on campus. They help with announcements, assemblies, and class activities.

What a time at Plain City Elementary with Jonathan Alder Local School District. They are a HALL of FAME school in Ohio and an Energy Bus School. They rolled out the red carpet for my visit and have very energized and joyful students. I love this school community. Staff genuinely WANT to be there.

Most staff conflict isn’t about attitude. It’s about broken connection. When trust cracks, teamwork fades. Repair the relationship first & you’ll reset the tone and remind everyone you’re on the same bus headed in the same direction. Give them opportunities to mingle!

Mascots matter. Colors matter. Chants matter. These aren’t just traditions, they’re emotional glue. When students and staff feel proud of who they are and where they belong, they show up differently. Don’t underestimate the power of school identity.

Want better attendance, focus, and behavior? Start with school pride. Students show up, speak up, and step up when they feel seen and connected. Build a culture they are proud of and they will protect it and hold others accountable to the standard. Bring the fun and energy.

Let's talk relationships. Can you guess the hardest part of a relationship? The maintenance phase. This is where we talk ABOUT the relationship, where we can improve, what we can keep doing & what the other party needs. Focus on them. This needs to happen at all relational levels

A classroom and a school without trust is just a room with rules. Don’t settle for control when you can build belief. Remember, rules without relationships leads to rebellion. Trust takes a long time to build but trust the process and watch relationships explode.

I signed this for an Energy Bus School coming back to the program after a change in leadership. They were one of our original schools in NC, and I am excited to see what they can do again. No matter where you are in the process, culture building starts with vision and belief!
