Congratulations to Kim O’Kane, Hospitality and Tourism teacher at North Hagerstown High School! She’s been an advisor for the Wash.Co. Association of Student Councils for 24 years and recently achieved a state recognition for her tireless work on behalf of student leadership.
What an inspiring presentation from student leaders with the Wash.Co. Association of Student Councils. They shared their experiences & life lessons they gained hosting the state convention for their peers across MD. Way to represent WCPS Maryland!
Our first finalist is Erin Orth, a 3rd grade teacher at Fountaindale! She’s been teaching with WCPS Maryland for 16 years, and she’s a great mentor for upcoming educators. She believes in inspiring her students to take positive actions through her lessons. Congratulations!
It’s an honor to address student leaders from across WCPS Maryland. The Washington County Association of Student Council invited Dr. Gary Willow and I to share more details about the Blueprint and how it impacts our schools. Great questions from engaged students!

The Washington County Association of Student Councils—student leadership development matters. Absolutely loved the mock General Assembly session led by our WCPS Maryland students.
My last Washington County Board of Education meeting. I am sad to be leaving, but I will take all the lessons learned to the State Board of Education. Thank you WCPS Maryland for letting me serve and for a memorable and amazing year!
Yesterday it was announced that I was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to be Student Member on the State Board of Education for 2021-2022. I am beyond honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. I cannot wait to work with Maryland State Department of Education in ensuring equity and excellence!
Civic Educ is crucial for Ss of all ages so that we can continue to build our democracy! I was able to watch elementary Ss in grades 2-5 apply learning to engage in civil discourse all around the US Constitution Potomac Heights ES! #TinyCitizens Jesse Orth Kate Long Swan Lura A. Hanks
