My last Washington County Board of Education meeting. I am sad to be leaving, but I will take all the lessons learned to the State Board of Education. Thank you WCPS Maryland for letting me serve and for a memorable and amazing year!

Yesterday it was announced that I was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to be Student Member on the State Board of Education for 2021-2022. I am beyond honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. I cannot wait to work with Maryland State Department of Education in ensuring equity and excellence!

There should be no “mystery” in learning. Students deserve to know what they are being asked to learn, why & how that learning will be useful to them, and how that learning will be assessed (including associated “success criteria”).

'Engagement” means more than simply being interested or involved in something. Think of a couple becoming engaged; they are making a commitment to each other. The best teaching not only piques students’ interest in the moment, but engages a commitment to deep learning over time.
