Religious abuse happens. Some people reject religion and consider the problem solved. Not so! Religion is simply the belief in and worship of the supernatural, i.e. God. It's neutral. To properly address religious abuse we must reject BAD religion and redirect to good religion.

Biblical: what the Bible teaches — prescriptive.

Descriptive is not Prescriptive.

'Keep the relationship at all costs.' Hmmm..yes, do all you can to stay connected, but the truth offends and they may walk.

Compromising conscience for a relationship is not Christian, it's codependent.

Jesus loved the rich young ruler. He also let him walk away.

Our society's standard of beauty is off. Solomon said of his crush, 'Thy belly is like a heap of wheat.' From whence cometh this belief that a stomach must be flat? He didn't say, 'a pancake of wheat,' but 'a heap of wheat.' Heap.

We tend to think suffering indicates that a person sinned. Through the story of Job God tried to correct this, so that when the Messiah suffered they would know it was for their sin, not His. But-

'We esteemed Him stricken' when 'He was wounded for OUR transgressions.'

This will be the most contentious election of my life, and probably yours.

I'm dread it. Are you?

What can we do to minimize the damage it will have on our relationships, churches, and communities?

If God lifted the veil between the earth and heaven, we'd see good and evil angels in ongoing, active conflict--the evil trying to destroy us, the good trying to preserve us.
