When the college at which I teach, Dartmouth 🌲, does wrong by its people—students, staff, faculty, neighbors—I tweet about it. Invariably I’m accused by some of disloyalty. This time, too. Nah. This is what being part of a community means: we pay attention.

The college at which teach students the ethics of journalism, Dartmouth 🌲, brought to campus an actual state riot squad that arrested a student journalist for protesting the arrest of a student journalist for videoing the arrest of a professor for photographing police.

A Dartmouth 🌲 hero, my colleague ⁦Annelise Orleck⁩, brutalized, jailed, & banned for photographing NH State riot squad seizing her students. Cops also arrested a journalist videoing her arrest, & then another journalist who protested them grabbing her colleague.

This was the definitive struggle of my wife, Julia Rabig’s time at Penn years ago. Victory at last!

If they wanted to act wisely, all universities would proactively and immediately establish processes for social auditing of their investment holdings, conducted by groups of faculty, students, neighbours and others. It would be a near-perfect use for citizens’ assembly procedures

After 227 Dartmouth 🌲 faculty signed a petition to call a general faculty meeting, Pres. Beilock did call such a meeting but did not recognize the faculty's initiative IN ANY WAY. Total control of the narrative is some way to win hearts in one's first year of presidency.

Big reminder that cops have a discretion. Here's a chief who used his with more common sense than a whole lot of college presidents.

At a meeting of chairs, Pres. Beilock offered no accountability for why local police ended up calling militarized state police. It was as if she delegated a small task and it was then out of her hands.

As faculty I asked Dartmouth’s president why *very* mild protest was preemptively met with/ two of NH’s most militarized state police units. She told me they asked local PD for help. Ok, but how did that lead to state SWAT, long guns? She gave the same answer.

At 12:30 p.m., Dartmouth faculty and staff staged a walkout on the Green in response to the arrest of 90 individuals last night. They are also circulating a petition calling for an emergency meeting of the General Faculty of the College.

Here on @Dartmouth Green for an emergency faculty meeting in response to deployment state riot and SWAT cops last night. Five of the College’s six House Professors are here; the sixth isn’t because they were arrested and are now banned from the Green.

Dartmouth American Association of University Professors chapter and individual faculty members are preparing to protest the college administration’s handling of the protests last night and communicating about them this morning. The administration’s messaging does not represent the entire community.

Dartmout protest was genuinely peaceful & inclusive.The only disruption to courses were NH State riot police & SWAT team & ban on my colleague Prof. Annelise Orleck from teaching her courses because she objected nonviolently to a state riot cop seizing her phone.
