59 years ago today the Pacific Northwest was rocked by a powerful windstorm that is now known as the Columbus Day Storm. Although very strong storms have impacted the region since, this storm is still regarded as the "Gold Standard" of extreme northwest weather.

Rain and wind is currently impacting the region right now, but another storm system tomorrow will bring more of the same. Wind with this storm will become strong ahead of the precipitation set to move in tomorrow evening. Be prepared for strong south and southeast breezes!

This is a pretty amazing look at what travel was like nearly 100 years ago! However, even now, make sure to always be prepared for wintry driving conditions if heading up into high terrain this time of year!

Despite the past week of rainfall, the newest drought update released today still depicts a dire situation. Only minor improvements to the drought were seen in Siskiyou County with conditions holding steady elsewhere.

Cloudy and damp conditions have been in place across the region this morning along with breezy winds. Rainfall will persist through the day, although winds will slack off for most this afternoon. The Shasta Valley, however, will stay windy. A Wind Advisory has been issued.

Let's appreciate this awesome lenticular cloud seen over Mt. Shasta illuminated by this morning's sunrise! Those circular clouds aren't spaceships, but this photo is certainly out of this world!

Showers will be in place through the weekend. However, the main forecasting concern resides with a potent storm system arriving Monday evening. This could be the first I-5 snow event of the season in Siskiyou County south of Weed. Strong wind will be observed elsewhere.

As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to say how thankful I am for the entire KDRV Morning/Midday team! Not only my on-air friends but my friends behind the scenes too. All of these folks bring joy and laughter to my life and make waking up at 1:30 AM everyday totally worth it!

Nearly 60 earthquakes have occurred offshore in the Blanco Fracture Zone since the beginning of yesterday. No tsunami threat exists as of now and the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network notes this in no way signals that the "Big One" is coming soon.

Mostly dry conditions and fairly calm weather today will change abruptly this weekend as a strong winter storm is set to impact our region. Heavy mountain snow will make for difficult to impossible travel at times. More adverse weather is expected to start next week!

We received dozens of viewer photos yesterday during the snow event, and thank you to all who submitted great pictures! But I really want to showcase this photo from Wimer as it looks straight out of a Christmas Card or Hallmark movie! 'Tis the Season! 🎅☃️❄️

It is with a bittersweet taste in my mouth that I announce today is my final day at KDRV. I have made so many lifelong friends over the past 3 years it is hard to be leaving. However, I have a great job opportunity back in my home state. I am looking forward to my next chapter.
