If you don’t know, now you know. Jeannette is 2-6-1 all time against Clairton but the Jays are winners of two straight. The first game ended in a 0-0 tie back in 1915 and the other games have been played since Jeannette dropped to Single A.

What’s at stake? With a win Friday night, Jeannette would claim its 27th conference title, 21st undefeated regular season, a home playoff game, and the likely #1 see in the WPIAL playoffs. Sounds like a big game to me!!

What’s at stake part 2? With a win Friday night Jeannette would claim three straight conference titles for the first time since ‘01, ‘02, and ‘03. This would also be the first back-to-back undefeated regular seasons since ‘02, ‘03 under Bob Murphy.

#2 Jayhawk Opponent Russ Grimm. The only hall of famer on the list, Grimm threw 2 TDS and had 2 INTs on defense in a 1975 28-20 Southmoreland win over Jeannette. He then went to Pitt, where he switched to OL. He played for the Redskins and was a hall of fame inductee in 2010.

Throwback Thursday!! James “Buster” Clarkson is known for his accomplishments in baseball but he was a fine football player as well. He was a standout halfback for the 1932 WPIAL Championship team. He scored a 55-yrd TD against Greensburg in the final game

If you don’t know, now you know. Since the PIAA has gone to six classifications, 18 WPIAL champions have been been crowned. Of those 18, 11 have lost in the regular season. That’s 61% of champions who lost a regular season game. Still plenty of football to be played!!

Under Roy Hall the Jayhawks are 7-1 in first round playoff games. The only loss was a 30-22 defeat to the Freeport Yellow Jackets in 2010. The Hawks have only lost 8 first round games since 1990.

If you don’t know now you know. Jeannette has not opened the playoffs as a road team since 2006. That year the Jays traveled to Laurel in the opening round and won 22-14. That would be one of the closest playoff games that year before a loss to Wilson in the state title game.
