50 days to go until AOSB (SSE) at RMAS for those wishing to commission from the ranks. See Defence Connect at dle.ice.mod.gov.uk/course/view.ph… which explains and demonstrate the entire 3 days now including the cognitive ability assessment information & example assessments - any concerns?

This is the Irish Guards Machine Gun Platoon on exercise in the USA. Can you spot Cpl Phillips a reservist from W Coy… No, because Reservists regularly work with regular army units performing to the required standard and more. #IrishGuards

Richard Wakeford was acting as temporary captain of the 2/4th Bn The Hampshire Regiment when he was awarded a Victoria Cross. Wakeford was armed with only a revolver when he went forward and attacked the opposition. Despite his wounds he continued and reached his objective.

When serving in Iraq, Cpl Caines was involved in a standoff after his colleagues in the Iraqi Army started getting anxious about food and water supplies. Caines challenged a gunman with his weapon lowered, and diffused the situation. He was awarded a George Medal for his actions.

On #WorldChocolateDay here is a very relevant object from our collection. In 1900, to boost morale and wish them a happy new year, Queen Victoria sent tins containing Fry’s chocolate to troops serving in South Africa in the Boer War. Our tin still contains the chocolate!

The Battle of Talavera took place in 1809. Arthur Wellesley commanded the Anglo-Spanish army against the French who had occupied Madrid. The French attacked from two sides, taking a hill that gained them a strategic advantage, before losing it to the British.

Today is #MindenDay, the second Regimental Day of the year! On 1 August 1759, at the Battle of Minden, the 37th Regiment of Foot obeyed the Duke of Brunswick’s order and advanced towards the French “with drums beating in proper time.” This turned out to be quite the mistake!
