More great news! ⁦Richmond Public Schools⁩ was only 1 of 16 districts across country to win $15.3 million federal grant from the Inflation Reduction Act to improve HVAC systems at 22 Title I schools. Average age of those schools? EIGHTY-SIX YEARS.

A lightning strike caused a small fire on roof at Cardinal ES this evening. RFD responded very quickly & contained it. NO injuries. Classes will be cancelled tomorrow due to significant water damage on 2nd floor. I’ll have a fuller update tomorrow. Many thanks to RFD!

Update: Classes will resume at Cardinal ES on Tuesday (we’re closed this Friday and Monday for Labor Day weekend). Families in need of meals can come to the school to pick them up starting tomorrow.

My heart breaks at the news of the school shooting in Georgia. I’ve got nothing insightful left to say on this topic. It just needs to stop. RPS families, please note that I’ve asked RPD for an increased presence at our high schools tomorrow out of an abundance of caution.
