Anyone know which prison was used for those sentenced from the Dewsbury Batley area in 1918? Wakefield prison (the one ordinarily used) was closed to civilian prisoners in the WW1 period (West Yorkshire Archive Service records)

Office view this aft, brighter despite the rain as we’ve had the conifer removed

Took part in week 1 of a mindful movement pilot session. It was amazing. Even managed to tune out the tree surgeon removing our conifer. Feeling so chilled now. Maybe it will help the research 😉

Must go to bed. Got far too engrossed in some one-place study research this evening about an event in 1918. And it shockingly resonates with 2024 Britain. I’ve decided to write it up as a Batley St Mary’s post, and hope to complete this week. #OnePlaceStudy

Relaxing few days away from computer & family history research. Walking, reading, gardening, good food, catching up with friends & recharging the batteries. Sunshine & Northern Lights gave it a holiday feel. I could get used to it. Back to research tomorrow…& I’ll love that too

A lovely wedding anniversary, & unlike 32 years ago the sun shone. Lovely Greenway walk. Birdsong, flowers & metal sheep! Followed by a drink in the Cross Keys beer garden, with great company. Finished off with a fantastic meal at Tappinos. Our 1st - of hopefully many - visits.

Had my final guided mindfulness session this morning. Loved this 6-week course. Hoping now I’m left to my own devices I continue putting it into practice. I’ve found it really calming. Learning to pause & simply ‘be’ rather than ‘do’ has reduced research stresses

Doing some of my own Irish family history tonight - Cassidy family, Co Mayo. And think I’ve finally worked out the family connection for a U.S. 1937 mass card I’ve a copy of - looks like it was my grandad’s brother (with around 8 years knocked off his age). #FamilyHistory
