Poor lady. Told by her Midwife that faecal and urinary incontinence were 'normal after a vaginal birth.' One fears as to how long she believed this and tolerated these life-changing and depressing symptoms for before seeking better informed advice and clinical input?

This was a very difficult personal blog to write but sometimes writing about something openly is an crucial part of healing & moving forward. This is a chapter of my life I'm keen to leave behind now but one thing that's struck me since posting (as well as the kindness &

Damning & deeply concerning. This is just the latest report raising serious red flags about the culture and leadership of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children - some kind of wider overarching inquiry feels very much warranted and needed. #patientsafety

Yet another review by a royal college which raised patient safety concerns but was not made public (or discussed by the board?}. I’ve found numerous examples of these. 721 children in rogue surgeon investigation at Great Ormond Street. thetimes.com/article/9ec915…

Shocking exclusive from ⁦Shaun Lintern⁩ on a rogue surgeon at GOSH and yet there are some very familiar patterns around whistleblowers being ignored thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…

If there were patients/ people with lived experience of harm sitting on these boards, I'm quite sure that the culture would be different. It's evident that GOSH has dire leadership/cultural issues - IMO a wider/overarching inquiry is needed. Wes Streeting MP

“A number of staff raised concerns more than once, verbally and in writing, and were met with either a lack of decisive action or, in some cases, no response at all" - the The Royal College of Surgeons of England report said

So many London based clinicians getting in touch with me today to say that GOSH has a poor reputation among medics in the capital. Toxic culture raised by them all. It's always known. Except to the patients and their families.

Royal College: "This poor culture extended to the wider leadership and governance within the organisation, with it appearing that those at trust board and governance levels were either not particularly involved or proactive in relation to, or did not have sight of, these matters"

In my view what’s needed now is expertly facilitated dialogue that enables all in this mix to be heard & understood re their exp & harms & what has led to the issues & find a way out acknowledging the harms & responsibilities to put things as right as poss now. 1/2

Pts, fams, staff, GOSH leaders, pr, legal, and wider system influencers inc. regulators. Hearing, acknowledging, understanding & finding ways to honour everyone’s experience & improve things for the future together Undoing the forces at play that are resulting in these messes 2/2

The The Lampard Inquiry chair warns the number of deaths covered by the inquiry is likely to be "significantly in excess of the 2,000" previously publicised. Horrific stuff to come I fear.
