This 'I'm resigning but staying on until my successor has been chosen' schtick needs to be called out and scrutinised more. Becoming too common in UK politics.

End result is no set departure date and a 'farewell' tour where millions ยฃ are wasted on securing politicians 'legacy'.

I think it's also underappreciated by commentators who have only properly started following Scottish politics since 2014 that the current division and rancour in the SNP is very much a reversion to the mean for the party and it was infact the past decade that was the exception.
