Criminalisation of human rights defenders is aimed at delegitimizing human rights struggles & discouraging such activism more broadly. This is a major & widespread issue when it comes to HRDs working on climate change. #TippingPoints #UNGA80

While the challenges faced by HRDs working on climate change & a just transition are widespread, certain groups of defenders face particular & often elevated risks, including women human rights defenders, indigenous HRDs & journalists. #TippingPoints #UNGA80

Working with HRDs, States could adopt real solutions to reduce emissions; they could build mitigation strategies & resilience from the grassroots; they could transition to just & sustainable means of energy production that empower people. #TippingPoints #UNGA80
