Our NHS is not “the envy of the world”. It’s appallingly bad The NHS comes in the bottom two of 18 developed countries on almost every measure. Including survival rates for common cancers.

A lovely lady was in tears with me yesterday. Tears of fear. My older constituents are terrified by the winter fuel allowance removal. It is an evil policy.

Richard Tice MP 🇬🇧 Richard, listen to Peter Cardwell on Talk this morning. A man of 75 is still having to work and the NHS and DWP won't offer any help for his disabled wife's needs, who he's caring for too. The winter fuel payments he's losing are the last straw for many people. It's cruel.

This is Rose. She is a young street dog who I feed daily in Thailand. ✂️ This was me bringing her for an operation yesterday. I want to use her as an example to explain how we have stopped a quarter of a million dogs being born into suffering… (1/10) 🧵

Rose is about 6 months old so it was time to get sterilized (also called spaying or neutered) She is one of about 500 million street dogs around the world. They suffer a lot. My main focus is to reduce the number of street dogs. Rose didn’t know where she was off to (2/10)

We had mobile clinics here in Samui which we fund 50% with the wonderful Soi Dog Foundation . Rose was one of about 30 dogs being done yesterday. You can see them all here waiting for their operations and recovering. These are all street dogs (3/10)

I identified this as the quickest way to help dogs at scale. The partners catch the dogs, work in the communities and the mobile clinics are usually in temples or community halls. Depending on the country and partner each dogs costs $25-$50 (4/10)

I took the first 300 dogs to the vets myself in 2022. Since then we have ramped up… 🌎 9 partners in 3 countries ✂️ We fund 5000 dogs a month 🐕 Rose was dog 23,400 since we started. By the end of 2024 we hope to be at 40,000 dogs sterilized (5/10)

Rose was back yesterday evening post operation to see her street dog friends. We use a rough estimate of 10 dogs stopped per operation. In reality over time with multiple litters it’s much higher. 23,400 operations x 10 = quarter of a million puppies stopped (6/10)

Niall Harbison (@niallharbison) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I checked on Rose this morning. The dogs get disposable stitches which effectively melt away in time. She is already feeling better. Rose would have had puppies very soon had we not done this operation. We have stopped the cycle of suffering for her and 23,400 others (7/10)

You can see how healthy the dogs are. They’ve all been sterilized. They get great food and have medicines. We are currently at about 80% of dogs sterilized on my island. We hope to be at 95% (impossible to get higher) by the end of September (8/10)

I enjoyed doing Rose yesterday but the reality is I have to find… 🤝 More Partners 👩🏽‍💻 More talented logistics people 💵 More funding 🌎 More global buy in from governments etc 5000 dogs a month is great but my dream is to somehow get to 100,000s a month (9/10)

The big picture stuff is challenging and exciting in equal measure. 23,400 operations is amazing but it’s also nice to just see little Rose free now to live her life without raising her own puppies soon. Quarter of a million puppies stopped but only getting started 🙏(10/10)
