Morden Peregrines. Incubation continues well, and with the tiercel doing his fair share - so far 5 shifts today, total almost 5 hrs! There are sometimes short gaps, but nothing significant. These images show him going on, incubating, and the falcon taking over 54 minutes later.

Morden Peregrines. Since the 3rd egg was laid incubation seems to be fairly consistent, encouragingly with the tiercel doing about 3 hours today - last year he did very little. These images show the falcon leaving, him going on, and then the falcon moving him off 1hr 13m later.🤞

Sutton Peregrines. Incubation is going well, albeit with the slightly unusual situation of the tiercel doing much of it during the day. He moves off when she wants though. However, it was a bit of a surprise to see them mating at about 19.30 last night! All images from yesterday.

Morden Peregrines. Also today an intruding immature male (on size, and the fact the falcon wasn't too bothered) was on the box and ledge from 11.47 until 12.03. He has an orange Darvic ring so potentially a London ringed bird, but so far I've been unable to read anything on it.

Morden Peregrines. Quite a surprise to see the falcon lay her 3rd egg at 15.06 today, about 5 days 15 hrs since the 2nd! They (and almost exclusively the falcon) are not yet consistently incubating the first 2, with quite long gaps of up to 3 hours with the eggs uncovered.

Day I-34
Almost like clockwork ;) A chick, hopefully the first of 3 or 4, hatched at 9:45am. It's looking strong and has already had two feeds.
No pip seen on the other eggs.

Garden birding. Only the second Chiffchaff that I've seen my garden. It spent quite a while this afternoon mostly foraging in the apple tree, but it did venture to other plants allowing for these images. No song/calls though. The previous sighting was on 12/11/22.

Garden birding. A Collared Dove this morning, now sadly a very rare visitor with just 3 garden sightings in 2023, the last being 5 months ago on 12 November. I do still regularly see one or two at West Sutton station though, which is less than 10 minutes walk away.

Local wildlife. Picked up this male Hairy-footed Flower Bee as he was in a vulnerable position on a pavement. Managed these two phone photos as I was about to release him on flowers in my garden (where I've seen them before), but he then flew off very quickly!

Morden Peregrines. The falcon seemed surprised, and quite interested, to see a Pigeon when she approached the box! It flew to the ledge between the 2nd & 3rd images, but after it returned she lost interest when it wandered off behind the metal track, and she settled on the eggs.

Today we launched our new petition calling on The Labour Party to keep their promise to end the badger cull. It is very likely they will form the next Govt so it is vital they stick to their word! 4,500+ already signed in the first 10 hours!

Garden birding. Quite a surprise this morning to see the first Stock Dove I've had here. Initially on the grass next door, but here a few houses away. They are in Cheam (& Nonsuch) Parks, about 3/4 mile away, but I wouldn't expect to see one in my small suburban/urban garden.

Morden Peregrines. The 2nd egg was laid during the night. The falcon went into the box at 23.05 and the egg was revealed when she left at 04.35. Images during the night aren't clear, but there may be 2 showing at 00.10. If so, this would be a gap of almost 73 hours from the 1st.

Morden Peregrines. A couple of things from yesterday. The tiercel has shown little interest in the egg so far and seems as confused by it as he was last year, and the falcon took some food into the box and sat by the egg with it for a few minutes before taking it away again.

Morden Peregrines. Great news! We have our first egg this year! The falcon went into the box at 21.09 last night and the egg was laid at 23.21. The 2nd/3rd images are of the moment it was laid, and then a better view of it a few seconds later when the falcon moved.
