Acequia (ancient irrigation canals) in urban Albuquerque, NM. Such a beauty. And two future water economists in training - I’ve been taking my 4 years old and 2 years old exploring all the ditches around since last spring.

Why is water illiquid? Excited to share our new paper forthcoming at Applied Economics Perspectives and Policy. We examined the US water futures market (the first in the world) launched a year ago and identified the causes of illiquidity related to both spot water markets and the futures contract design.

Got the two emails today from students - one from my intro econ with a water focus and the other from my senior-level natural resource econ. As always, these emails are one of the best holiday gifts ever. And so proud of my colleagues. Happy holidays!
