Twenty-seven years in elementary education and more than 13 curricular resources/methodologies for reading... I do believe all children can learn to read. If we could focus more on pedagogy and a bit less on resource roulette, I think we'd increase success.

When we teach the alphabetic layer we teach different types of phoneme-grapheme relationships & use labels (e,g., consonant digraph, CVC, silent e, r-controlled vowel).

Do the same for morphology

Teach the different types of morphemes, & their purposes.

I’m a research junkie. But I’m also a fieldwork junkie. You can become a brilliant teacher having engaged in almost zero research. You can engage with great swathes of research and not be a brilliant teacher. Research itself isn’t what makes teachers.
