The suffering in Sudan almost defies description, and we likely know only a small part of its true extent. reuters.com/investigates/s…

Nearly 1000 people were killed by the Egyptian security services in Tahrir Square during the Arab Spring, if that is what this tweet is invoking. No idea what the point of comparison would be with Russia. The situations are tense enough without making inapt comparisons like this

Given the US's suspension of some aid to the Danab commandos because of widespread theft, it's a good time to repeat my point about the difference between the vigor with which Mogadishu has responded to the Ethiopia-Somaliland MoU & the vigor with which it has fought al-Shabaab.

Somalia's government insists that the Ethiopia-Somaliland MoU is illegitimate because it violates what it says are its sovereign borders. Yet here is one of its embassies tweeting out a picture of 'Greater Somalia' that would violate the borders of Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya.

The most irritating part of officials' comments in this piece is them treating as revelatory things that are blindingly obvious: '[withdrawing from countries where democracy is breaking down] 'does leave a huge gap for other less scrupulous competitors' such as Moscow or Beijing'

A reckoning is long overdue. It's hard to remember a time when US interests in Africa were in worse shape. Sudan aflame; kicked out of Niger; shackled to Somalia's dysfunctional government; coups galore; Iran, Russia, China ascendant; terrorists overruning the Sahel. Trainwreck

Biden administration's rush to support the Kenyan-led mission in Haiti despite strong Congressional opposition, a negative Kenyan court ruling, & the obvious dangers of the mission itself, seems like the common DC policy of doing something just to be seen to be doing something.

In an era of worldwide political upheaval, Nikki Haley has remained a steadfast defender of freedom and an effective advocate for US security and prosperity.

We are honored to have her join Hudson as the next Walter P. Stern Chair: hudson.org/nikki-haley-jo…

Never ascribe to evil intentions what can be explained by incompetence, but maybe it's politically inconvenient for the UN to release accurate numbers because UN officials have insisted that Gaza is the world's worst humanitarian crisis? Sudan badly complicates that narrative.

The govt doesn’t get it, as evidenced in this recent op-ed in Financial Times by its FM. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member Ranking Member Risch counters that the real 'self-sabotage' is the govt’s jeopardizing the US relationship thru its foreign policy, ultimately harming South Africans the most.
