President Lai Ching-te said China has no right to represent the people of Taiwan during his first National Day address

Responding to China’s military drills, the Presidential Office urged #China to respect #Taiwan’s democracy and cease its provocations. President Lai also restated Taiwan's commitment to peace, dialogue and regional stability, while the military closely monitors the drills.

With today's military exercises, China aims to undermine regional stability & the status quo, failing to live up to global expectations. While Taiwan remains open to cross-strait dialogue & exchanges, we are determined to protect our free & democratic constitutional system.

Speaking at Forum 2000 in #Prague this morning, my message to the international democratic community was clear: While we face immense challenges, by standing together & holding fast to our values, we can safeguard our way of life & build a brighter future.
