We’re spending today shining a light on the Teach Code: Unplugged Computer Science Academy! This year’s academy is chaired by Perry Shank! Perry Shank is a K-12 Computer Science educator for the Harrisonburg City School system and a trainer/facilitator for CodeVA in Richmond!

For today’s #SpeakerSpotlight series we’d like to introduce Jon M. Stapleton! Jon currently teaches computer science and programming at Harrisonburg High School, and his scholarly work focuses on the intersection of the arts, technology, education, and culture!

Today we are going to be delving into the Core Math and Reading (K-5) Academy! This year the Academy is chaired by Jackie Gulino. Jackie has her masters in curriculum development from Columbia University and has put together a series of fascinating presentations!

This year the Core Math and Reading Academy will include presentations such as “Kids Can Code” and “Lighting the Fire in Language Arts: Writing Memoirs and Poems

The 2019 Core Math and Reading Academy will have innovative presenters such as John Strebe and Brianna Burton on board this year!

For Today’s #SpeakerSpotlight series we’d like to shine a light on Sheila Jones. Sheila is the co-chair of the Adapted PE Academy and is the K-12 Coordinator for Health and Physical Education for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

Sheila has a plethora of experience, having worked as the Educational Coordinator at the Episcopal Center for Children in Washington, DC and as an Adapted PE teacher for 11 years at the Phillips Programs in Annandale, VA.

Sheila has been a presenter and chair of the JMU CTA for five years, has presented at the VAHPERD Convention, JMU Health and Physical Activity Institute, and Shape America National Convention. Register for the Content Teaching Academy today!

As part of our #SpeakerSpotlight series, we would also like to introduce you to Jillian Lauer! Jillian is the co-chair of the Adapted PE Academy and is currently the Lead Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher for Loudoun County Public Schools.

Jillian is a Certified Adapted Physical Education Specialist (CAPE) who has been teaching in LCPS for the last 15 years. She provides support and consults with both General and Adapted PE teachers to provide quality services for the students in LCPS!

The third member of the Adapted PE Academy we’d like to highlight for our #SpeakerSpotlight series is Meredith Morton! Meredith is nationally certified in Adapted Physical Education and has been teaching for 14 years!

Highlights of Meredith's career include initiating Hanover’s first annual Special Olympics “Feet Meet,” and developing a toolkit to support students who have sustained a brain injury as part of the Traumatic Brain Injury team.
