In Lean thinking, there is no target metric for improvement. It's cultural. When you see waste, remove it. When you see something that doesn't work, fix it. There is no target. Goodhart's Law ("When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure") applies.

I posted a few of Deming's "14 points" (from "Out of the Crisis"; 1982) the other day. Pretty much all of these are relevant today in every software organization. Let's look at the whole list 👇 1/18

No. Things don't take longer. Let's look at one way to make stories smaller. The image in the QT is the first step in breaking up a large story into many small ones. (Something they evidently didn't do.) A "workflow diagram" like that is the first step. 1/5

If you think you must do something (e.g. Sprints, backlogs, story points, estimation, meetings, &c.) to be Agile, perhaps you don't fully understand what Agile is. It has nothing to do with rigid practices or frameworks. See holub.com/heu

Just read another "Scrum is the solution to all problems" post over on LinkedIn. To my mind, Scrum falls into the "mostly harmless" category. Doesn't do much good, doesn't do much damage. 1/5

So you see, 1 point is equal to 1 effort, which is .25 of the difficulty, which is 2.33 times the complexity, which is equal to .4 days. So a point is not equal to a day. It is equal to 0.68669 days. #NotMyAgile

Aside from the ums and uhs I think this about sums it up. I want to create spaces where everyone involved is encouraged to be their whole, growing self. I believe that this will get the most needs met.

just ran across this old rebuttal about how the antidote to requirements shift is to lock everything down tight to the nth decimal place: nope, in general, then answer is better communication. Watch:

If you’re truly an excellent product manager, then you know better than the stakeholders and do not need to collaborate with them. Just do what you want and prove your awesomeness. It’ll be fine. #NotMyAgile
