Steve Ellwood Guinevere of Mason Called it a tarza in Ashington and Bedlington Used to play games of ‘sticky picky’ on them: you swing out with a knife in your hand and have to stick it somewhere (tree, or the ground) where the next person won’t be able to swing and pick up from. And it continues.

Steve Ellwood Guinevere of Mason In ‘sticky picky’ you’re out the game if you fall off or you drop or throw the knife. I love Tarzan’s, I had a go in one in the woods the other day, aged 42

For those curious. ....Macassar oil was a kind of hair oil used in the 19th century. Thus the piece of cloth put on the back/arm of the chair to protect against grease/ grime. Pronounced anti me kassa. Source as always ( including the pronunciation) - the OED.

Flotterton ( Rothbury way ) means 'flooded road farm'....it's in the Coquet valley, so not surprising! Recorded as Flotewayton 1256.

With the aga out of use given the renovations, sister is being creative in warming ( home made ) scone. No microwave ( I don't have one either.) For the avoidance of doubt scone rhymes with gone.

Nil points. Looks at numbers 17 & 18 aghast....dictionaries & maps. Fair enough I used the online OED ( daily!), but a paper map is a delight. I have *quite a few*.....

I have posted this a couple of times for general amusement. I learnt to drive down here, but not in Swindon. Thankfully. I have always avoided the Magic Roundabout. A double roundabout is enough for me.

Guinevere's Dialect. Sackless. OED. Scottish & Nthn meaning guileless, simple & harmless AND ALSO disparagingly as ⬇️, feeble minded, lacking energy. Possibly from an early Scandinavian word, see Old Norse, saklauss. Sackless gowks (double Norse) would be an excellent phrase.

Hi:) Did anyone recognise any of a group of cyclists aged circa 9-13 who passed through Wylam approx 25 mins ago. One on a bright orange bike. They’ve torched the wood to West of Blayney Row. Fire brigade en route. Third arson attack by same kids in this same area in last 10 days

"I haven’t been here, I am ashamed to say, before but it really is the most beautiful racecourse. It has the most wonderful views. "Unfortunately, I didn’t bring the weather with me, I can imagine what it is like on a sunny day because it looks pretty good on a day like this.
