Due to very low water levels in Guyana, local people have been moving massive fish, called Arapaima, from drying ponds to rivers and lakes, to save them. This is grass roots conservation action at work! See fascinating videos:

Our study demonstrates how best practice forestry and logging can maintain healthy vertebrate populations over the long term. Through the adoption of low-harvest RIL techniques and management for long-term timber provision, we can benefit from biodiversity ecosystem services!

Assemblage changes were also predicted by vertical stratification of forest use, with avian species using the understorey and mid–upper levels of the forest being most affected !🐦🌳

1year after logging only minor changes could be detected but 10years later richness slightly declined in some groups, while others showed recovery, indicating that some niches may have subtle, but long-term relaxation effects occurring, while others recovered or remain unchanged

We sampled bird (mist-net and point count) and bat assemblages pre-logged, 1 year after & 10years after RIL in Guyana, using a before-after control-impact (BACI) sampling design.

In this study, we sought to understand what changes may occur in bird and bat assemblages, after a rainforest that underwent Reduced-Impact Logging (RIL), was left to regenerate for 10 years
