And yes, this is me at Edinburgh Waverley back in the 70’s, probably 1978 wearing my NASA stitched badge on my C&A coat, clutching a Menzies prized Hornby 00 Class 25 under my arm as a treat from my late parents seeing the future. Not forgetting the Clarks brown shoes. Who would

I’ve always said an empty Depot is a good depot, but I’ll make an exception for the incredible Willesden TMD. 1A. The legendary Class 87 locomotives ‘Wolf’ and ‘Hal’ sit astride with ‘Birmingham’ to the left. So proud to gain the keys of this depot in 1994.

Now this was a Signalbox and a half! Clapham Junction ‘A’. I’m thinking I took these photographs in 1990.

When Scotland sent south towards Manchester and Crewe their best commuter trains. Oh my. The original ‘Blue Trains’ that transformed the network around Glasgow.

Back in Scotland and here is the misty (and grainy photograph - apologies) Georgemas Junction in 1985 with the first service from Thurso ready to join the Wick portion and then travel south to Inverness. From memory that was 37035 freshly painted but I may be wrong.

Apart from the Jetfoil this was the most exciting way of crossing the Channel from Kent to France. Hoverspeed ‘The Princess Margaret’ Drove my Ford Orion on board. Incredible engineering.

Here we go. May 1984 and here is a pair of Ramsgate allocated Southeastern workhorses 4CEP units powering on the Up towards Petts Wood. Little did I know 8 years later I would become responsible for the whole fleet of Kent Coast. And then some!

Flash back to 14th May 2017 and eases round the curve at Causewayhead, Stirling.co.uk with the The National Wallace Monument as a backdrop on the yet to be electrified Network Rail Scotland line from Alloa. How times change so quickly!

This is what happens when the West Coast Main Line falls over. Again. Fair play to all the front line teams dealing with such disruption that spreads across the UK network as a result. Most train operators across England, Wales and Scotland allowed ticket acceptance and support

Transition time from British Rail to Intercity and Executive liveries being applied on the West Coast. Here’s an Up express racing through Watford Junction. Must of been around 1987 (ish!)
