Before and during Covid, much of the was chopped for charcoal given no other options.

Now, EarthLungs Reforestation Foundation is working with Ecosia and veritree to restore the 350ha site.

Our initial reporting on a burst dam came directly from government officials. After we got to the ground in Mai Mahiu, we quickly learned that there was no dam. Storm water blew through a clogged tunnel under the railway.
