The Art & Writing class recently explored the theme of Spring Flowers and beauty after winter 🌷🌼🌸 Art is a powerful tool in exploring complex emotions. Classes led by our three Artists in Residence offer a therapeutic space to nurture creativity and confidence rebuilding.

Last week was all about words at our Tea Cosy over 60s social and craft club with word searches, word games, and of course tea and biscuits! Every week the Tea Cosy club gathers to craft and socialise over tea as well as learn from visiting workshops such the Wallace Collection.

We would like to thank our incredible partner Lawyers Against Poverty who lead a weekly online session providing information to our community on individual rights in the areas of employment, criminal, and family law. Thanks to lawyers like Clare Cowie for leading so many great sessions!

A huge thank you to Whittington Health NHS Trust for their continued partnership in providing dental hygiene support to our community, including dental packs with toothbrushes and toothpaste and a free online dental health session 🦷🪥😁💙

One of our community members, Tooraj, has generously volunteered to offer free haircuts during our Centre Days on Wednesdays. A fresh trim has the power to build confidence and dignity. Thank you to Tooraj for sharing his skill and spreading joy one haircut at a time! 💇🏽✂️

We are so grateful to the incredible American university students who have volunteered with the Centre while studying in the UK this term. They have been committed volunteers from assisting in art and dance to making lunches. Thank you for spending your Wednesdays with us!

Thanks to Luca Silvestrini's Protein who lead a very popular class at the Centre every week. Protein and dancers from The Place are offering an extra session creating a piece for Refugee Week in June. Stay tuned for performance details.

We are very excited to be partnering with PramDepot. PramDepot provides boxes filled with high quality recycled baby items to vulnerable new mums and their babies in London including everything needed in the first month: blankets, nappies, bottles, bibs, clothes, pads, etc, 🍼🧸

Thank you once again to the IslingtonCommunityChoir and Bellow Fellows for hosting a concert fundraiser on March 27th in support of the Islington Centre for the third consecutive year! 🎶 It was a lovely evening with beautiful voices, fun songs, and a great welcome to the new season 🌷

We are delighted to highlight our continued partnership with The Bike Project 🧡 who refurbishes and donates secondhand bikes to refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. Two community members at the Centre are referred each month 🙌 Bikes are hugely impactful in our community!

We love to celebrate the positive journeys of our community! While at the Centre from 2010 until 2019 Richard gained his positive status, learnt English, volunteered, and more. Now he is working full time bringing up 3 children with his wife at their home in North London.

We are so honoured to celebrate the long-time dedication of Victor De Waal as he exits the board after 24 years of supporting the Centre, including 10 years as Board Chair! As a refugee arriving to the UK in 1939, Victor has always understood our community first hand.

We are proud to highlight our partnership with NHS Central London Action on Sexual Health (CLASH)! CLASH provides free confidential sexual health outreach services and provides regular sexual health advice sessions to our community. Thank you for helping to support well-being!

Since January we have had some incredible volunteers help prepare Wednesday lunches, including current Centre community member Ntela. She is passionate about making delicious meals, feeding others, and spreading joy through her food. A huge thank you to all!

The Craft Corner at the Centre has become a popular spot with those in our community brining items to mend, creative projects to start, and a place to relax and chat while sewing. Thanks to a donation of a sewing machine from John Lewis & Partners for making this possible!

Thank you to the Hayward Gallery at the Southbank Centre for hosting us at the 'When Forms Come Alive' exhibition last week! One attendee said of the contemporary sculptures: 'I still like the moving lanterns best, but the foam shapes have changed again. Interesting and fun.'
