Really interesting read! A note on the archaeological evidence cited. Mirza writes that excavations show the modern city dates to the 16th century. Actually, the excavations were carried out in & around mosques in the old city & C14 dates do not predates 16th c.

The 16th century is when Harar became the capital of the Adal Sultanate, and also coincides with the building of the djugol, the city wall, and the earliest Harari manuscripts. #Ethiopia #EthiopianArt #Harar #AfricanArchaeology #AfricanHistory #IslamicArchaeology #IslamicArt
