This is the hottest we have ever observed. The Mediterranean is now completely outside all previous records. We have never measured this level of heat across the basin at any time of year. It is only July. We usually see the annual maximum in August.

Amazing: Google partnered with American Airlines, used AI to tweak flight paths to reduce contrails. The results are in, and if scaled up this could immediately reduce aviation's global warming impact by almost 20% Technology just keeps beating degrowth! blog.google/technology/ai/…

The smell of the air after a storm is caused by Geosmin: a chemical released by dead soil bacteria. Humans are sensitive to it, capable of detecting concentrations ~5 parts per trillion. It's theorised in our evolutionary past this helped us seek out water.

Crazy to think that woman didn’t have the same equal voting rights in the UK till 1928. As the General Election comes in, it’s nice to think of the strong woman that fought for our right to be a part of this society.
