Anion fluorination leads to ionic liquids with good properties. Usually. Not always. Have a look at our recent article, just out in Chemical Science, which paints a fuller picture. dx.doi.org/10.1039/d2sc03… Imperial Chemistry #chemtwitter #Chemistry

The Gordon conference on ionic liquids is about to start - if it's anything like the preceding seminar then it's going to be great! Looking forward to a week of exciting science and the people behind it 😊

Glad to have been involved in the first paper of one of my friends from undergrad. I contributed MD simulations to really nail down the molecular cause for the good properties of ether-functionalised ionic liquids. dx.doi.org/10.1021/acs.jp… Agílio Pádua Imperial Chemistry #chemistry

I took the whole last weekend off to go kayaking at the parc des eaux vives in Huningue. First time on whitewater since well over four years!

I made my very first battery!* (It's not really a battery but it has lithium inside and technically a lemon battery is also a battery so this is the first time I made something where if I ask someone else what it is they say "a battery, duh")

Ah yes, the joy of being trained on the equipment in a new lab. "You need to whack it here with this old wrench." #chemistry #RealTimeChem

Last year we published an experimental paper, saying it would be really nice to have simulations on the topic. I found out that 20 days later, on the same topic, someone else published a paper with the exact opposite situation. dx.doi.org/10.1039/D1SC06… dx.doi.org/10.1039/D1CP05…

It's an honour to be on this recent paper in Chemical Science with the chemists from Würzburg, very thorough work by the experimentalists there! (If you prefer theory / MD simulations, just read the supporting 😆) doi.org/10.1039/D2SC06…

Video from 2013 where I show the elephant's toothpaste to pupils during my voluntary year at Saarland University. 10 years later I'm still in chemistry, but without that 'playing around' I wouldn't have started. Good teachers can change a life, they certainly made mine. Thanks.

On the way to Lyon for the Congress on ionic liquids (COIL). I look forward to meeting my friends and colleagues from all over the world 😊 it really feels like a big family reunion (the good kind).

Yesterday I gave a lecture for the "Science Dialogue" programme 静岡県立沼津東高等学校 . The first time for me speaking in front of 100ish high school students. Thanks JSPS 独立行政法人日本学術振興会(学振) for this unique opportunity! I was amazed by the hospitality and the questions posed by the students!

Have a look at our recent paper featuring guanidinium ionic liquids with ether side chains! There is something for everyone: crystal structures, simulations, syntheses, physical chemistry... doi.org/10.1016/j.jil.…

A big paper with most of the work I did during my postdoc in Japan got accepted in Chemical Science just as I was travelling back to Europe! This one is about highly concentrated battery electrolytes. Thanks to JSPS 独立行政法人日本学術振興会(学振) for making this possible! doi.org/10.1039/D4SC01…
